This book never fails to make me smile. The rhythm of the poetry, the bright illustrations, the heartfelt story.. I love this book. Every person I have ever read this book to has also enjoyed it. Who doesn’t love a gangly giraffe trying to dance? I also love the fact that this book holds a message of hope. It explains that no matter who you are or what struggles you may face – it is possible to succeed.
Gerald the giraffe longs to dance, but his legs are too skinny and his neck is too long. At the Jungle Dance, the warthogs waltz, the chimps cha-cha, and the lions tango. “Giraffes can’t dance,” they all jeer when it’s Gerald’s turn to prance. But with some sound advice from a wise cricket, Gerald starts swaying to his own sweet tune.
